This September Mind, the mental health charity, are encouraging us to set ourselves a 30 day exercise challenge for the month of September.

Exercise is really important for our mental health; not only does it release chemicals in the brain that raises our mood and lowers anxiety, it helps give us something positive to focus on, and feel connected with others.

I am setting myself the challenge of running 200 miles in September, which will include finishing off a 480 mile running challenge I started in July.

Just Giving

As well as raising money, ‘Adventures of an Anxious Mind’ has a number of other purposes:

EXERCISE –  As we all know, exercise is an important part of trying to control anxiety and lift depression.

CHALLENGE –  I push myself out of my comfort zone by tackling some of my anxious triggers.  The challenges also motivate me, and give me a sense of purpose and ambition.

ADVENTURE – The challenges are fun and take me to places I have never been before both in the UK and around the world.  There are so many exciting adventures to choose from, including Walking all the National Trails in the UK (and running parts of them); The Three Peaks Challenge; The Big Five Marathon in South Africa; and Climbing Kilimanjaro.
